Ministry Assistant: Guy Platts
Guy has lived in Walmer most of his life and was known by many local people as the manager of the Deal Bookshop for thirty years. The role of Ministry Assistant was created to provide support to the Minister and congregation and Guy became the church's first ever Ministry Assistant at Walmer Baptist in February 2017. Guy is also in demand on the local Lay Preachers Circuit, often covering Minister's holidays, etc.
The role of Ministry Assistant - not formally a leadership role -was initially part funded by 'Access to Work' a Government Scheme to fund and provide practical support for those with long-term health conditions who wish to remain in employment. With the retirement of tthe Minister in Augusst 2021 the Church funded the part-time post to support the Deacons in their legal obligations as Charity Trustees and the church in its day-to-day administration.
