A Joyful Occasion

Our first baptism after lockdown

This October we were delighted to open our baptistry for the first time since lockdown. The service was well attended with both our own congregation and friends and family of out candidate.

Different parts of the service were taken by our ‘three Reverends,’ our moderator Helen, our Elder Seyan and our church member Arthur. Arthur led our service and spoke passionately on the need to be a participant rather than a spectator. Our candidate Rita gave a moving testimony explaining how she had originally grown up as part of a church community and how she had recently found her way back to faith. Rita was baptised by Helen with the help of our other Rita, a Deacon of the Church, as we sang ‘Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us o'er the world's tempestuous sea.’ Afterwards we gathered around the Lord’s table for communion and Seyan welcomed Rita into formal membership of the Church with the right hand of fellowship.

Afterwards, in her thank you card to fellowship, Rita described the morning as ‘A wonderful experience and one that will live with me forever.’

We baptise adults on profession of their faith in Christ. If you are interested please ask someone from the leadership team for more information.
